Shinobu Kamizono (神園 しのぶ, Kamizono Shinobu) is one of the main heroines from Gal*Gun: Double Peace. She is a 2nd Year student attending Class 2-E at Sakurazaki Academy. She is a demon hunter from the Kamizono clan, and is Maya Kamizono's older sister. She is one of the main love interests for Houdai Kudoki in Gal*Gun: Double Peace, and appears in certain side quests for Gal*Gun 2.
Additionally, she and Maya star in Gal Guardians: Demon Purge, as a demon hunting duo fighting through a mysterious castle that has appeared at Sakurazaki Academy.
Her ending theme in Double Peace is Twinkle, Twinkle, Double Star (Twinkle, Twinkle, W Star).
Appearance[]
Shinobu has blue eyes and long ,black, flowing hair that drapes down to her waist.
In the Gal*Gun games and outside of combat in Gal Guardians, she wears a red hair band and two hair accessories, each with two silver bells and red ribbons, that houses the Heart Guardian that protects her from the powers of angels and demons. As a 2nd year student of Sakurazaki Academy, she is seen wearing the 2nd year uniform, which features blue elements, with a frilled skirt. For her legwear, she wears black leggings and black shoes.
In Gal Guardians: Demon Purge, her demon-hunting outfit is primarily blue and black, and her hair accessories are changed from red to blue. She wears a black coat that reaches below her knees, with white frills on the edges and a white inner layer.

Abilities[]
As a demon hunter, Shinobu uses a MAC-10 that seems to fire bullets that either impedes vision or deals damage. She can also be seen wielding a M202 FLASH rocket launcher.
In Gal*Gun: Double Peace, she possesses very little spiritual power on her own, and needs to wear her enchanted bells to be able to even see Demons. At the end of the Shinobu and Sisters Routes, her spiritual power increases greatly due to a miracle of love.
In Gal*Gun 2, she is capable of seeing and hearing Risu.
In Gal Guardians, she specializes in long-range combat, using her MAC-10 to rapidly fire bullets at foes. She also uses other long-range subweapons, such as throwing daggers and grenades. She is capable of seeing Angels, but since she is still going through training, she loses sight of them when she loses focus.

Gal Guardians[]
In Gal Guardians: Demon Purge, Shinobu is a long range specialist, whose primary weapon is a submachine gun. This gun can be continuously fired and hits foes from a distance, but has limited ammo (initially 100 max), the individual bullets do low damage, and they do not pierce shields. Once the ammo is depleted, Shinobu must either wait for the ammo to replenish, or manually reload the gun (double tapping down by default). Thus, she is at a disadvantage in sudden close range encounters. Despite fighting from afar, however, she possesses more base health than her sister. Additionally, her subweapons focus on either hitting at certain angles, or hit and run attacks.

Story[]
This section spoils the HELL out of games in the Gal*Gun series. Don't say I didn't warn ya!
Gal*Gun: Double Peace[]
Shinobu Kamizono is the older sister of the Kamizono sisters, and is seemingly the spiritually weaker one of the demon hunting duo. She and Maya used to be childhood friends with Houdai, but time has seemingly increased the distance between them. One fateful day, however, her occupation as a demon hunter is exposed after bumping into him while pursuing Kurona. Upon realizing Houdai was able to see the demon girl, she briefly opens up and wishes for him to become a demon hunter. Noticing his hesitation to accept the offer, she decides to cut off the conversation and resume hunting Kurona. Her role in the story after this point is dependent on the route the player chooses.
Shinobu's Route[]
When Houdai decides to follow her, Shinobu continues to try to avoid talking to him. Seeing that the conversation seemed to be going nowhere, Ekoro tries to use the Doki Doki Field to strengthen the bond between the two. However, the Pheromone Shot's power is blocked by Shinobu's Guardian, a manifestation of her will with a strong power of rejection. Noticing Houdai's strange behavior, she concludes that a demon's influence was to blame for his initial hesitation, and strengthens her resolve to hunt down Kurona. She then leaves Houdai behind once again to resume her pursuit.
While Shinobu is preparing to ambush Kurona, Houdai finds her and offers to help. When he observes that Kurona looks just like a normal girl, Shinobu claims that demons have long used their beauty to deceive the foolish. Houdai's response results in an outburst from her, which alerts Kurona and causes her to flee through the window. Shinobu herself gets stuck in the window in attempt to give chase.
After being freed by Houdai (or Maya), Shinobu is embarrassed by the incident and continues to hunt Kurona on her own. She then investigates the rumors of a "panty thief" in the girl's changing room. While changing clothes herself, she removed her enchanted bell charm, leaving her vulnerable to demonic possession from Kurona's demon spear. This possession causes her to be loyal to Kurona and display a more sadistic personality.
Once the possession was dispelled by Houdai and Ekoro, she swears to hunt Kurona down. She also explains that her bell charm is the Talisman Bell, which enhances her abilities and powers as a demon hunter. Without it, her power is so weak that she can't see demons, whereas Maya is capable of defeating demons without the need of such items. This brings her feelings of inadequacy to the surface, and she decides it's best for her to sort out these feelings on her own.
After following Kurona to the school's underground cave, she gets caught and swallowed by Mr. Demon Veggie. When Houdai defeats the monster and frees her, Shinobu uses a talisman to banish Kurona back to Hell despite the demon girl's pleas for forgiveness. However, despite being thankful for Houdai's assistance, having to count on him so much and feeling that he might surpass her as a demon hunter further increases her feelings of inadequacy.
Shinobu is followed by Houdai in a classroom, where she explains that usually, Maya is the one who fights in the frontlines while she lends support. This is because Maya is the strongest demon hunter the Kamizono family has had in generations, and thus that was why she had trained with the head family for three years. Shinobu meanwhile had stayed behind, leading her to believe that she just comes short compared to her sister. However, out of her desire to try to act as a proper older sister for Maya and to prove herself, she specifically requested to the head family that she and Maya switched roles on this day. However, her failure, along with her unwilling jealousy of Maya and Houdai's abilities, has made her feel miserable. Her Heart Guardian grows stronger, which repels Houdai and Ekoro's attempt to use the Doki Doki Field. She wants to be left alone, but before she leaves, she requests for Houdai to use his power to aid Maya.
Having been told by Maya to wait at the park, Shinobu encounters Houdai one final time. She tries to tell him to leave her alone, but Houdai asserts that everything she's been doing has been for Maya's sake, and wanted to become a demon hunter in her place to ease her burden. However, Shinobu forcefully cuts off Houdai's attempt to confess his love, due to her knowledge that Maya is in love with Houdai as well. Despite loving Houdai herself, she prioritizes the happiness of her sister over her own. The two battle, and Shinobu is defeated. Shinobu continues to reject Houdai's feelings, believing that it would be cruel of her to be with Houdai when her sister is already burdened with being a demon hunter. She kept her distance from Houdai for three years for the sake of Maya's happiness.
However, Maya intervenes, saying that while she does love Houdai, it would pain her much more not seeing him and Shinobu being happy together. Shinobu argues that she feels the same, but Maya counters that it isn't the same because it's ignoring Houdai's feelings. Shinobu still worries over Maya having to bear the brunt of the burden for demon hunting, but Maya reassures her, saying that the matter is already resolved and permits Houdai to use Final Doki Doki Mode.
True Ending[]
Afterwards, Shinobu asks Houdai one final time if he's truly okay with having her as a girlfriend, and when Houdai confirms, she confesses her love to him. She then asks Maya if she was truly happy about the two becoming a couple, and Maya states that she's happy if the two are happy together. Once Shinobu expresses happiness at the prospect of her and Houdai being a couple, the overwhelming power of the Popul-aura flows into Shinobu, turning her into the most powerful demon hunter of the Kamizono clan. Shinobu is now powerful enough to see Ekoro standing beside Houdai, and expresses joy at seeing an angel. She exclaims that this situation is a true miracle of love, As Ekoro returns to heaven, she recalls the rumor of the "Super Popular Legend", where a meeting with an angel resulted in a couple getting together. Finally, the story ends when she reaffirms that she has loved Houdai ever since their childhood, and will keep loving him forever.
Good Ending[]
Like the true ending, Shinobu asks Houdai if he is truly okay with being with her, to which he responds that he wouldn't choose anyone else. After he offers to help find the best way for them and Maya to be happy together, Shinobu realizes that Maya is missing. As the two decide to walk home together, Houdai is immediately confronted by several girls, all of whom are still attracted to him. Patako appears, and explains to Shinobu that since Houdai's love power wasn't high enough to bind their relationship, the effects of the Popul-aura are still present. Patako then introduces herself to a confused Shinobu, before losing the last of her restraint and confessing to Houdai. Finally, Maya herself loses restraint and declares that she won't lose Houdai to Shinobu. The story ends with Shinobu yelling out in confusion and exasperation.
Bad Ending[]
On the bad ending, Shinobu does not show up at the park at all, and tells Maya to inform Houdai that her message is "We are just friends from now on."
Maya's Route[]
Shinobu encounters Houdai in the midst of his search for Maya. She is still cross about their prior conversation, and warns Houdai not to make Maya cry, or else. Shinobu ends the conversation by telling him that Maya is behind the gym.
Later, Shinobu attempts to call Maya, only for Houdai to pick up the phone instead. She questions why Maya isn't the one calling, and Houdai explains that Maya insisted for him to do so. After learning about Maya's injury and subsequent treatment, she thanks Houdai before requesting to contact Maya again. However, she is cut short and is forced to end the call.
Shinobu had been fighting Kurona and her Mr. Demon Balloon familiar at the school roof, and was subsequently defeated by the time Houdai and Maya arrive. Following the defeat of the familiar by Houdai, she thanks him for rescuing Maya from the monster. While the two talk amongst themselves, they fail to notice Maya drag Kurona away from the scene. When the two notice her absence, Houdai rushes to find her, leaving Shinobu behind.
Shinobu calls Houdai, ignoring his question about how she knew his number, and requests for him to meet her face-to-face for a talk. When the two meet, Shinobu confirms her suspicion that Houdai is in love with Maya. She claims that she shouldn't be surprised, given that he seemed to always have eyes for her. She apologizes for her earlier behavior, and explains that Maya is the Kamizono family's strongest demon hunter. For that reason, only Maya received training from the head family. Meanwhile, Shinobu is unable to even see demons without her Talisman Bell. She tries to act as an older sister that can support Maya to compensate for this weakness, but the harder she tries, the more Maya tries to support her in turn. Believing that Maya is overburdened as a result, she requests for Houdai be her support. Shinobu then reveals that Maya is in love with Houdai as well. She playfully teases Houdai about him being Maya's boyfriend-to-be, and claims to always have viewed him as a younger brother. When she says goodbye, however, there is a hint of sadness within her voice.
Later, she receives a call from Houdai, requesting her to arrange a meeting between him and Maya at the park. She complies, and also goes to the park herself, observing the meeting between the two while in hiding. She overhears the supposed destiny she is supposed to share with Houdai, and after Maya's defeat, she comes out of hiding upon Houdai's signal. Shinobu criticizes Maya's actions, protesting that she would not be happy if she were paired up with someone who wasn't interested in her at all. Upon being asked about her next course of action, Shinobu tells her sister to be honest with her own feelings. To encourage Maya, she confesses her feelings to Houdai, receiving an expected rejection from him. Light-heartedly lamenting that she fell in love with the wrong person, she gently tells Maya to confess her feelings to Houdai.
True Ending[]
After Maya's confession and the two become a couple, Shinobu jokes that there's no room for her, and congratulates Maya for becoming Houdai's girlfriend. She lightheartedly says that if Maya buys her a bean rice cake as a treat, she'd forgive her. Shinobu discreetly leaves while the lovers talk amongst themselves.
Sisters' Route[]
After Houdai and Ekoro's attempt to use the Doki Doki Field on the Kamizono sisters fails, Shinobu assumes the DDF's space was caused by Kurona. Being unable to see Ekoro, she also assumes that Houdai is talking to nothing, and swears to help with whatever has afflicted him after hunting down the demon girl.
She and Maya encounter Houdai again while he is fending off the advances of girls with the Pheromone Shot. Bewildered by what she has witnessed, Shinobu demands an explanation. After hearing his excuse, she once again believes that Kurona is responsible and consults Maya about purifying Houdai. However, Maya hesitantly explains that an angel, not a demon, had been with Houdai, and that she hasn't told Shinobu earlier because of how spontaneous she could be. Upon learning this, Shinobu gets an idea and decides to make preparations with Maya at the roof.
Once everyone is there, she and Maya attempt to do a ritual that would allow them to communicate with Ekoro. After the ritual, Houdai and Shinobu are incredibly excited, to both Maya and Ekoro's confusion. Shinobu, believing that she can feel angelic power gathering, declares that she believes that she can fly and calls for Ekoro's blessing. Then she recklessly jumps off the rooftop in her excitement, bewildering everyone. However, thanks to Ekoro's quick thinking, she temporarily grants Shinobu an angel's wings with "Ekoro Magic". While it does not last long, it is enough for Shinobu to land safely on the rooftop. Shinobu is ecstatic that there really is angel with Houdai. After being scolded by Maya for her reckless behavior, Shinobu apologizes and thanks Ekoro for saving her life (while looking in the wrong direction). She tells Houdai to meet with them at the Forbidden Room, which they use as a base when demon hunting.
At the Forbidden Room, Shinobu and Maya start the "360th Houdai meeting", in which Houdai's current situation was explained. Upon learning that Houdai needs to find a girlfriend by the end of the day, Shinobu shyly asks if there's a girl he liked. After Houdai's vague answer and the awkward silence that followed, she decides that stopping Kurona from potentially interfering is a priority. Hearing Ekoro's approval from Maya, she enthusiastically takes off in search of the demon girl.
Shinobu and Maya meet Houdai at the school pool, wearing their school swimsuits. Seeing Houdai's confusion, she explains that in order for their "Demon Attracting Balm" to work, it must be applied by someone of the opposite sex. Thus, in her words, 'Wearing a swimsuit isn't embarrassing if you're in the pool.' After Houdai applies it, Shinobu seems confident that the balm will attract Kurona, since it uses a scent only demons can smell. Before leaving, she tells Houdai to practice confessing to the girl he likes.
Shinobu and Maya confront Kurona, who was attracted to the smell of the Demon Attracting Balm. Upon Houdai and Ekoro arriving as well, Kurona flees into an underground cave. Shinobu tells Houdai and Ekoro to wait before entering just in case Kurona had set up a trap. Her concern proves to be warranted, as she and Maya end up captured by Mr. Demon Veggie, one of Kurona's strongest minions. The mucus from the monster also neutralized the smell from the demon balm, meaning it could not be used as a ploy again.
After Houdai defeats it and frees the sisters, Kurona mourns for the loss of her most loyal familiar, but Shinobu promptly sends her back to Hell. Shinobu believes demons should be hunted, not given compassion. She explains that demonic plants tend to develop a consciousness on their own regardless and that there were plenty more in Hell, which eases Houdai and Maya's feelings a little. She and Maya leave Houdai to confess to the girl he likes, but are stopped before they go too far. After hearing his request of meeting at the park they used to play at in their younger days, the two agree, but Shinobu insists for him to find a girlfriend before doing so, expressing concern about him potentially being forever alone.
At the park, Shinobu and Maya wait until Houdai arrives at the meeting spot. Once there, Houdai confesses that is in love with both sisters, and wants both to be his girlfriend. Shinobu is initially in utter disbelief, but after Houdai explained his feelings, she at least understood his sentiment. She kept her distance from Houdai because she felt it would be unfair to be with him wihout Maya, just like how Houdai couldn't approach Shinobu without Maya being there. Shinobu then implores Maya to be honest with her own feelings, knowing that she too loved Houdai. She believed Maya and Houdai would be a good couple, while suffering from her inferiority complex. Maya strongly denies this, revealing that the head family's astrologer determined that Houdai and Shinobu were destined for each other.
However, Houdai breaks the fourth wall, exclaiming in exasperation that this song and dance had already been done in the other routes, confusing everyone else. When he explains that a relationship involving the three of them, the two sisters briefly consider it (with one choice having Shinobu give the idea some serious thought...) but then object due to how morally questionable the relationship seems. Shinobu challenges Houdai to defeat the two of them, saying that if he does, she'll accept the idea and be his girlfriend along with Maya.
Upon their defeat, Shinobu seems happy and is willing to accept the relationship. However, upon seeing Maya still disagreeing with the idea, she (rather flimsily) stands in solidarity with Maya. This prompts Houdai and Ekoro to use the Doki Doki Field as a last ditch effort.
True Ending[]
Completely and utterly defeated, Shinobu and Maya profess their love for Houdai and accept their unconventional relationship. Shinobu questions they're going to do going forward, to which Houdai responds that he'll become a great demon hunter to help her and Maya, hoping that if he becomes strong enough, the Kamizono family will support their relationship. If the family still refused, then they won't care because of their united strength. Seeing as how he managed to beat both her and Maya himself, Shinobu believes he might be able to back up his words, and decides to full-heartedly support him. After Ekoro leaves, Shinobu and Maya hug Houdai, and Shinobu remarks that she's with him, she seems to feel more powerful. The story ends with Shinobu and Maya telling Houdai to have them as his brides.
Angel and Demon Route[]
After Houdai initially declines to assist her and Maya with hunting Kurona, Shinobu is in a bad mood and doesn't feel like talking to him, even refusing his subsequent offer to help later that day. At the school roof, she ends up under the possession of Kurona and battles Houdai. Once she is freed from Kurona's control, her bad mood is worsened by the humiliation and she leaves in a huff.
Gal*Gun 2[]
Shinobu and Maya make appearances in some of Gal*Gun 2's optional side missions. Upon learning of the Protagonist and Risu's demon hunting efforts, Shinobu insists for the two to stop, believing dealing with Kurona to be beyond their capabilities. After Risu begs for them to continue, Shinobu decides to test whether the Protagonist is worthy being Risu's partner, and assigns him to clear out the demons in the area without her or Maya's help.
After he passes her test, Shinobu holds a "strategy meeting" with Maya and shows jealousy towards the Demon Sweeper in his possession. After Risu interrupts, she begrudgingly admits that she can see why Risu approved of him, and will allow them to continue their efforts, but not before downplaying his success and attributing it to the Devil Sweeper.
The next time she and Maya meet the duo, it is under less dignified circumstances. When they had seemingly cornered Kurona in the gym's storage room, she managed to avoid capture and cast a curse on the room so that the door could not be opened from the inside. The duo tried to escape via the room's windows, but ended up stuck. Thus, they have to rely on Risu and the Protagonist to dispel the curse while trying to free themselves. After the ordeal is over, she admits that she should've trusted him more, given that he already had an angel's approval. She declares from this point onwards, they'll work together with the duo to discipline Kurona.
Eventually, she and Maya call upon the two once again for help due to being overwhelmed by sheer numbers of Mini Kuronas. Once the demons are all cleared out, Shinobu thanks him for aiding the sisters out once again, When Risu questions how Kurona got the best of them, Shinobu mentions that she had caught them off-guard and stolen their demon-hunting weapons, leaving them much more vulnerable to attack. Not wanting to cause any more trouble for Risu and the Protagonist, Shinobu swears that they'll get their weapons back on their own.
The sisters reclaim their weapons, but during the battle with Kurona, Shinobu gets hit by one of her demonic attacks. By the time Risu and the Protagonist arrive to their aid, Shinobu has fallen under the influence of the dark power, and while Shinobu tries her best to fight it, it causes a cruel and sadistic persona to emerge. Risu and the Protagonist use the power of the Doki Doki Field to purify Shinobu, but during the process, Shinobu's dark energy transferred to Maya. Shinobu pleads the duo to purify her sister as well, and is relieved when the purification is a success. As a show of gratitude, Shinobu grants the Protagonist the official title of "Demon Hunter," explaining that the title is an ancient honor granted to few even within the Kamizono family. She declares that there's nothing left for the her to teach him (to Risu's confusion...), and bids the duo farewell, hoping to meet again some day.

Thanks to her family's history of demon hunting, she has an almost-unhealthy obsession with the angels who fight against the demons. Shinobu's overwhelming confidence makes others think of her as reliable and talented, but in reality her grades are rather poor. She was once close childhood friends with Houdai, but after her little sister Maya was sent to live apart from her family, she started to act distant towards him. Presently the two are quite estranged.

Etymology[]
- The name Shinobu is written in hiragana (しのぶ), which has no special meaning. However, when written in kanji (忍), it could possibly mean "endurance, patience".
- Shinobu's surname Kamizono means "god, deity" (神) (kami) and "garden, park, plantation" (園) (sono/zono).
Trivia[]
- Shinobu makes an appearance in Mighty Gunvolt, where she is one of the girls that can appear trapped in a cage during the Mr. Demon Plant Jr. boss fight. This predates the release of Double Peace.
- Shinobu is the main heroine with the most successful dialogue choices tied to the Lewdness social stat.
- It is possible that the Gal Guardians design for Shinobu being primarily blue is in reference to the second year students of the Gal Gun games having a primarily blue color scheme for all outfits.
- Takuya Aizu has joked that the reason that Shinobu is unable to perform Maya's crouch walk in Gal Guardians is because she'd get stuck.[1] This is a nod to the Shinobu in the Window minigame in Double Peace.
- In Gal*Gun 2 and Gal Guardians: Demon Purge, Shinobu is capable of seeing Angels. This indicates that her spiritual power has grown greatly since the events of Double Peace, so it seems that the subsequent Gal*Gun games follow the Shinobu or Sisters Routes. However, it is worth noting in the case of Gal Guardians that Shinobu cannot see Angels if she loses focus, explained by her still going through proper training.
- Some of Shinobu's subweapons in Gal Guardians bear similarities to the subweapons in the Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon series, which Inti Creates also developed.
Connections to the Azure Striker Gunvolt series[]
In Azure Striker Gunvolt, the flagship series of Inti Creates, it is very heavily hinted that Shinobu Kamizono is the mother of Copen and Mytyl Kamizono in that series' canon.
- In the Gunvolt side story Fleeting Memories, Dr. Kamizono, father of the series' Kamizono twins, is mentioned to have obtained the Kamizono family name from marrying his wife, rather than the other way around. The Kamizono family is mentioned to be a lineage of spiritual mediums and exorcists. His wife also has a sister, who is married and at the time was the next heir to the family estate.
- Shinobu has shown an obsession with angels, with the Sisters Route in particular demonstrating her extreme reverence for them. Based on an optional request involving her missing book in the Shinobu route, this love for angels has persisted since childhood.
- In Copen's Gunvolt 2 Dengeki Nintendo profile, it is mentioned that his mother is of an exorcist lineage. Additionally, his mentions of "God" are moreso an influence from his mother, who loved goddesses and angels.[2]
- In Fleeting Memories, Dr. Kamizono's wife always said "like an angel, her son or daughter will not be brought up around bad influences."
- Shinobu wears a hair accessory with red ribbons and a pair of silver enchanted bells. Mytyl Kamizono wears a hair accessory with a red ribbon and a single silver bell. In the case of the latter, this was a design detail specified by Toshiaki Tai, the scenario writer for both the Gunvolt series and Gal*Gun: Double Peace.
- In an optional conversation in Gunvolt Chronicles: Luminous Avenger iX, Copen is in possession of an enchanted bell that has been passed down in his family for generations.
- Some of Copen's signature phrases, tenmafukumetsu(天魔覆滅)* and to-metsu(討滅, annihilate), are also said by Shinobu in Double Peace and Gal Gun 2. The former is chanted by Maya as well, but only in the Sisters Route of Double Peace. In Gal Guardians, both sisters use this phrase.
- * Tenma(天魔) is a Buddhist term, referring to a demon who interrupts Buddhist practices. So tenmafukumetsu(天魔覆滅) is a short chant with the meaning of "overthrow the demon".
- Inti Creates CEO Takuya Aizu, after retweeting the 5th anniversary art for Double Peace[3], commented on it featuring "Mother and maid in their younger days."[4] In an official Inti stream, when the artwork in question was the topic, he makes mention of "Mama and Aunt Maya."[5]
