Gal*Gun Returns (ぎゃる☆がん りたーんず Gyaru Gan Ritansu) is a remastered version of Gal*Gun coinciding with the series' 10th anniversary for Nintendo Switch and PC. It released in Japan on January 28th, 2021, and to the rest of the world on February 12th, 2021.
Development & Promotion[]
The idea of a Gal*Gun remaster was first mentioned in 2017, when Masanori Ito was asked about the possibility about a western release for the original game. He was hesitant to release the game as-is to the west, since it had been six years after the initial release and was beginning to look dated. Thus, he wished to update the graphics for the game and promised to make an English version if it came to fruition.[1]
Features[]
The biggest selling point of Gal*Gun Returns domestically was the greatly enhanced graphical quality compared to the original game and the new CG images accompanying the game's story. From a global standpoint, main appeal was that this was the first time the original game could be played outside of Japan, localized in English.
One feature Returns has is the option to increase the framerate cap to 60 FPS. However, this only applies in the rail shooter sections, so the dating sim sections, minigames, and boss fights remain at 30 FPS. Additionally, concept art and artwork previously exclusive to store bonuses are unlockable in the game's Gallery.
Almost all DLC from the original Gal*Gun are available from the start, only excluding specific collaboration outfits and Underwater Mode. Another notable omission compared to the PS3 version are online leaderboards for the game's Score Attack Mode.

Within the PC version's data, there are dummied out options for increasing the framerate cap to 120 FPS and 240 FPS.

- Unlike Double Peace, VR, and Gal*Gun 2, Returns uses a custom engine like the original Gal*Gun release, instead of Unreal Engine.
- One minor addition compared to the original release is that there are posters of a "hetare" Copen and Lumen from the Azure Striker Gunvolt series scattered throughout the school.
