She is not in Gal*Gun: Double Peace, Gal*Gun VR, and Gal*Gun 2, although she is occasionally referenced. In Gal Guardians: Demon Purge, she makes an appearance as a third year student who attends class 3-B.

Her credits theme is Pinky Promise (ゆびきり).

Personality[]

Kaname is a kind-hearted girl, and can be rather oblivious to innuendo. However, when she has her mind made up on doing something, it can be hard to convince her otherwise. She used to be afraid of the spirits that only she could see, but nowadays she's a fan of the supernatural and is a member of the Occult Club.

Abilities[]

Ever since childhood, Kaname had possessed the ability to see ghosts and communicate with them. In Gal*Gun: Double Peace, although not shown screen, she was able to detect the overwhelming dark power emanating from the Kurona's Demon Spear in the Demon Route. Additionally, she seems to possess some summoning abilities, demonstrated by her botched attempt at a love spell bringing forth a large monster, as well as conjuring Mr. Happinesses and dropping them from the sky.

In Gal Guardians: Demon Purge, Kaname's spiritual power is considered extraordinary by Maya, and Shinobu, who is able to see Angels at this point, believes it surpasses her own. Despite this great spiritual power, she is not very athletic, and thus is not a very capable fighter.

Story[]

Gal*Gun (Returns)[]

GGR-Kaname CG

After encountering Tenzou on Sakura Road, Kaname notices Patako's presence due to her heightened spiritual senses. She is only able to notice her shadow and the strange aura radiating from Tenzou, so she reaches the conclusion that Tenzou is being possessed by a malicious spirit. Kaname is unaffected by the Popul-aura, much to Tenzou's confusion. Patako attempts to use the Doki Doki Field on her, but Kaname's Heart Guardians ward off its power. The school bell rings before long, and thus the conversation between her and Tenzou has to resume later.

Kaname encounters Tenzou again at the Cafeteria, having witnessed him using the power of the Pheromone Shot and his unusual popularity. After hearing Tenzou's excuse, she concludes that his popularity must be caused by a malicious spirit using him to bully girls. Kaname rushes to the library to research the specific cause, heedless of Tenzou's words. The two meet again there, and after some small talk, the two search for books regarding the supernatural. However, when Tenzou mentions that his "condition" is connected to him having a crush on someone, Kaname misunderstands and assumes that he is in love with someone else. She says that she'll cheer him on in his efforts, and goes to the Occult Club's clubroom to search for a book that grants a love charm.

At the Occult Club, she attempts to invoke the love spell. However, she gets distracted by her thoughts about Tenzou, and accidentally summons a tentacled monster instead. She gets caught by the monster, but thanks to Tenzou's efforts, the monster is defeated.

KanameMemory1

The two remember their younger days, in which Kaname was frequently bullied by spirits that no one else could see. Even though he couldn't see them himself, Tenzou would always try to fend the spirits off by swinging around a stick at them. He had vowed to always protect her.

Kaname Talking to a Spirit

Kaname goes to the school roof to cheer herself up, and is being consoled by a spirit (in Returns, this spirit is Yuko Yureino). After Tenzou arrives, the two talk about their childhood memories, and Tenzou reaffirms that he intends to always protect her. Kaname is surprised that he intends to do so despite (apparently) having a crush on someone else. Tenzou and Patako attempt to use the Doki Doki Field on Kaname, but the spiritual defenses of her Heart Guardians are stronger than ever despite exhausting a lot of power from summoning the monster. Kaname promises to help Tenzou exorcise the spirit haunting him after class, and tells him to meet her on the roof by then. As the sun begins to set, the two meet on the rooftop once again. Kaname asserts that she'll exorcise Tenzou and give him a love charm to ensure his happiness. Tenzou tries to tell his feelings, but Kaname assumes that he still wants to uphold his promise of protecting her. She believes that his crush wouldn't like him always being around another girl, and tells him to hold still for the exorcism. The two battle, and Tenzou manages to best her. He finally admits his true feelings outright, leaving Kaname in disbelief and her guard lowered enough for the Doki Doki Field to overwhelm her Heart Guardians.

True Ending[]
KanameTrueEnd

Kaname asks when Tenzou had fallen for her, and he mentions that it was since the day he swore to protect her, perhaps even earlier. She reciprocates his feelings, confessing that she always loved him not just as a childhood friend, but as a boy. It turned out that the source of her Heart Guardian wasn't her spiritual power, but rather the conflict from wanting to be with him and thinking that they couldn't be more than childhood friends. She and Tenzou watch in awe from the beautiful Cupid's Blessing Patako left for them in the sunset sky.

Good Ending[]

Kaname asks if Tenzou really does love her, and upon hearing his affirmation, wonders why he didn't mention his feelings sooner. Tenzou rebutts that he had been trying to tell her, but she was running too wild to listen. She requests to hear his confession one more time, which flusters him to no end. She confesses her to him in turn, and Patako quietly leaves the two of them, wishing happiness for the both of them.

Bad Ending[]

Kaname appreciates Tenzou's feelings, but she wants to remain only as Tenzou's childhood friend. This leaves Tenzou and Patako wallowing in despair over the rejection.

Gal*Gun (Returns): Doki Doki Carnival[]

If Kaname is not Tenzou's girlfriend, she comes along with the other heroines and his girlfriend to confront him about the rumors of him bullying the girls on the academy campus.

If Kaname is Tenzou's girlfriend, she and the other heroines confront Tenzou in regards to the previously mentioned rumors. Kaname asks if the reason for his actions were because he didn't think she was attractive enough, which Tenzou fervently denies. She is still downtrodden and begins to have doubts about whether Tenzou views her as his girlfriend. Tenzou is unable to explain due to pressing circumstances, and thus Patako activates the DDF on everyone present. Afterwards, Kaname still expresses concern and self-doubt about why Tenzou can't explain his actions, Upon hearing that this was something Tenzou had to handle on his own, she chooses to believe in him. She makes him promise to get her ice cream and to go on a date with her to cheer her up after he finishes his business.

Gal Guardians: Demon Purge[]

Kaname is captured by Verdant Despot in the Courtyard, but unlike the other heroines in the game, is not fused with a Fiend due to her extremely high spiritual power. Unfortunately for her, that makes her a convenient victim to the perverse demon. After Despot's defeat, she is relieved upon learning that the monster was a demon, rather than a monster that she accidentally summoned. She gives Shinobu and Maya the Oonusa and Umbrella subweapons respectively, which are imbued with her spiritual power.

She and the other heroines regroup in the Gymnasium. When the Kamizono sisters ask her about what would excite a healthy teenage boy, she suggests leggings, which she remembers seeing in the Courtyard.

In the True Ending, she aids the siblings in the final battle against Adult Kurona, along with the other heroines rescued by the two.

Other Appearances[]

Gal*Gun: Double Peace[]

Although not directly mentioned by name, in Kurona's route she ends up finding Kurona's Demon Spear and turning it in to the Lost & Found. However, she does tell Aoi that the aura emanating from the spear gave her a bad feeling.

Gal*Gun 2[]

Kaname makes a cameo as a cardboard cutout the player can earn and decorate their room with.

Mighty/Gal Gunvolt Burst[]

Kaname makes a cameo in Tenzou's official art for Burst. Additionally, she has her own pixel sticker.

Profile[]

Gal*Gun Returns website profile[]

A 2nd year student, she's Tenzou's childhood friend and is a kind, but a bit meddling type of girl. Her family lives at a shrine where she works as a shrine maiden. She is completely obsessed with anything involving ghosts and spirits, and goes into full super-fan mode whenever she comes into contact with them. When it comes to romance, she has a tough time sharing her feelings and is not good at even talking about it. While she's not very athletic or physically fit, good luck trying to stop her if she's on a rampage about something. She's also quite an airhead.

Gal*Gun Returns In-Game Profile[]

Tenzou's childhood friend, she's a shrine maiden who lacks confidence in romance. She overcame her fear of spirits, became a fan, and joined the Ghost Hunters Club.

Gal Guardians In-Game Profile[]

A kind yet somewhat meddlesome third year. She works as a spirit medium at her family's shrine, and her immense spiritual power allows her to make short work of the paranormal. That said, she's hardly the most athletic type.

Designer Comments[]

(Disclaimer: Machine TL)

Ito: Since she is a heroine character, I tried to design her in a way that she would be liked by everyone. Her uniform is so plain that the only difference between her and the other mob characters is her knee socks, but I tried to create a character that would leave a lasting impression. The only distinguishing feature is her hair. I was able to do it quite easily.

...

Ito: ......For my part, I am in charge of eroticism among the four, so I made the illustration to show the most skin tone. It is simple and a little plump.

Quotes[]

Gal*Gun Returns[]

  • "Happikuru Happikuru Happikuru..." (Summon Spell)
  • "Mr. Happiness! Make Tenzou verrry happy!"
  • "Cross your heart and hope to die. Break it once and you'll regret it. I'll expose your childhood secret." (Doki Doki Carnival)

Gal Guardians: Demon Purge[]

  • "Happy miracle, miracle happiness magic! That's a little charm to boost your morale." (Before the final battle)
  • "I accidentally summoned a cryptid once before, but now I'm wondering if it came from this realm. It was similar to the other demons here..."
  • "Now I just need to deal with the shame of being undie-less for so long." (After panties are returned)

Trivia[]

  • In Gal*Gun: Double Peace onwards, the Occult Club room has become the Forbidden Room, with roots and talismans spread throughout the room. This indicates that the tentacle monster from Kaname's route was summoned and defeated, which may imply that the events of her route are canon.
    • In Double Peace's Sisters Route, Houdai mentions a rumor of a monster being summoned in the Occult Club room by a girl who was trying to use a love spell.
    • In Gal Guardians, Kaname explicitly mentions having summoned a monster before by accident, further confirming that the events of her route specifically had taken place.
  • Additionally, Mr. Happiness only begins to appear throughout the school from Double Peace onwards. Since one of Kaname's attacks in her boss fight summons Mr. Happinesses to drop on Tenzou, this may be another indication that her route is what future games follow.
  • Due to having a different VA in Returns, Kaname's credits theme was rerecorded with the new VA likely for the sake of consistency.
  • Furthermore, the version of Kaname's credits theme from the drama CD and Returns have an instrumental at the end of song that isn't present in the first OST CD version.
  • In the Azure Striker Gunvolt drama CD "Admiration to Peace", Joule and a few other characters visit "Nonomi(ya?) Shrine" in hopes of obtaining a marriage charm.
    • In Azure Striker Gunvolt 3's "D-nizer Mode", one of the purchasable upgrades is the "Nonomiya Shrine Charm".
